Overall purpose of job:

The Housing Navigator Service Lead works in partnership with SIFA’s Homeless Intervention Team and Birmingham City Council’s Housing Directorate to ensure that individuals coming to SIFA in need of housing are provided with the necessary support and guidance to engage with the Local Authority and access safe, sustainable accommodation that adequately meets their needs. A key focus of the role is to identify and address the barriers that may otherwise prevent an individual from accessing such accommodation.

The post holder will also ensure that individuals accessing accommodation are signposted to other relevant services that may enable them to sustain their tenancies. The post holder will be a strong leader and communicator who can engage with partner agencies and other SIFA services to ensure those accessing the space receive the correct assistance. The Service Lead reports to the HIT Service Manager and plays an essential role in the operational delivery of SIFA Fireside’s vision.

Key tasks (selection of):

1. Provide direct line management and supervision for Housing Navigators.

2. Facilitate integrated service provision through close working alongside other Service Leads, ensuring individuals requesting housing assistance are given clear guidance and appropriate support to access accommodation.

3. Carry out advocacy on behalf of clients where required.

4. Support and review the active caseload of Housing Navigators.

5. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, contributing to their ongoing development across the organisation and acting as the first point of reference for Housing Navigators. The post holder will also act as the first escalation point concerning incidents and complaints.
